The language that happens to be your mother's

It's been seven days since UNESCO International Mother Language Day, yet it's always never too late to talk about our mother language. I'm writing this in English, but it could be in Turkish, in Romanian, in Portuguese, in Polish, in Italian, in Irish, in Greek, in French -- because, though our mother language may differ, it means the same for all of us: the language we learned to speak first.

It's more than that. It's the language I'll always carry, and it carries all my memories and likes. Some may think without it and some may speak it better than others, but no one can understand it like I do. Sometimes you feel you're alone, but you're never alone... a piece of paper and something to write with is all you need, thanks to the language you never forget. You may speak a hundred languages, no language is more beautiful, more rich, more intimate than your mother language.

As Fernando Pessoa once said, "Someone who doesn't see well a word can't see well a soul."

 1. Learning to Fly

Somewhere in Europe

For a long time I had been scared of flying again.

But now I feel it's time to untie the hawsers and sail again in the big sea of Being.

Just like Dante's Ulixes I want to go for broke, givin' chase to virtute e canoscenza.

I've got my wings broken by the cyclons; anyway I still feel like flying.

Paradoxes of my restlessness are scattered

from a Eugenio Montale's poem to a bus leading to the airport.

But now let's banish the ancient ghosts and start travelling again.

So let's get on board, leave and fly!

hi..
this is my first comment using this new way of communication!!
today is one of the most beautiful days of the winter but yesterday was one of the worst!!It was rainning all day and a lot of roads in Athens were flooded...Unfortunately one young woman, only twenty-three year old, died because or the rain!! She was in her car while she was going to her job...and cause of  her fear  she had a heart attack!! This event proves that Athens is not ready to face such difficult situations like other european capitals!!
